Appointments and COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Taking care of your mental health is especially important during the pandemic. We recommend that you do not defer psychology or other medical appointments.

During Step 2 restrictions in Melbourne:
  • telephone and video appointments are available ("telehealth")
  • face to face appointments are not available
  • Medicare now allows up to 20 appointments per year (beyond the up to 10 normally available). See below.

If you normally attend St Albans Complete Health Care or Box Hill Medical Centre, please make your appointment through them.
If you normally have your appointment in Sandringham, please contact us.

For telephone appointments, Linda will call you, so you won't face extra phone expenses.

For video appointments:
  • please ask for video when making the appointment, and leave your email address as well as phone number
  • Linda normally uses Facetime (Apple) or Zoom (for any device - smart phone, tablet or computer). We can consider other technology if you wish.
  • in case of technical issues, the appointment will continue on the phone.

Telehealth tips

Prepare beforehand by:
  • Being organised and ready on time.
  • Finding a space that is comfortable, warm, and private.
  • Making sure your phone is charged and being near your phone so you can hear it ring.
  • Having your Medicare card at hand.
Be ready on time.
Keep your appointment time free of distractions. Don't try to do two things at once.

Medicare, COVID-19 and Telehealth

The Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP covers both telehealth and face to face appointments.

Because of the pandemic, Medicare now allows up to 20 appointments per year - normally it's up to 10 per year.

Once you have used up the initial appointments:
  • contact your GP for a review of your Mental Health Treatment Plan to get extra appointments
  • (you can talk to your GP on the phone or video call)
  • then make your psychology appointment

Private Health Funds and Telehealth

Many private health funds cover telehealth. Confirm coverage and limits with your health fund.
